Every year, the doctors and staff of Linden Optometry hold fundraising events to support the World Sight Day Challenge.
1.2 billion people worldwide lack access to basic, life-changing eye care—but the gift of sight is one that we can give together. World Sight Day is an annual day of awareness supported by eye health organizations around the world to draw global attention to vision impairment and to raise funds to combat them.
Our goal is to help give the gift of vision to people in under-served communities around the world. Many children in rural Cambodia, Vietnam, Nepal, and Tanzania have never had an eye exam, simply because there are no eye clinics near their villages. As a result, they have problems keeping up in school.
2024's World Sight Day theme is “Working Together, Seeing Forever.” There is no better way to show love for others around the world than to help to ensure they can see — a brighter future for themselves and their families.
This year, in addition to holding bake sales, the doctors and staff of Linden Optometry are raising funds by asking the public to donate their used contact lens blister packs for recycling. Through a grant from Bausch & Lomb, old blister packs are recycled into plastic playground equipment, and one dollar per pound is donated to World Sight Day.
“For most of us, poor vision is easily corrected with a trip to the optometrist” said Alan Limfat, OD, CEO of Linden Optometry P.C. “But imagine if there was no eye care in your community, or even in your country. You would struggle to read, hold a job, and provide for your family. You appreciate clear vision. But you may not realize the significant impact you can make for people in need. I'm reminded of the words of Helen Keller: 'Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.' "
Please bring in your contact lens blister packs, or drop your spare change at one of the collection boxes in Linden Optometry's offices at 477 E. Colorado Blvd in Pasadena. Linden Optometry will match it 100%. Or, give online at: https://ogs-usa-donors.givingsight.org/-/NSCJCXEQ

What are we doing to help?
We are collecting used and/or expired contact lenses and contact lens blister packs. Here we package them for shipment to the recycling plant, which will shred them and create raw plastic which can be used to build a variety of products including park benches and playground equipment. Please do not bring the contact lens cardboard boxes -- drop those in your blue recycle bin at home.
